September is for Classic Car Lovers in Sevierville

Category : Sevierville Events

This month, if it’s classic and muscle cars that really get your engine revved up, then Sevierville, Tn is the place to be. You’ve probably been to or heard of the monster car shows taking place in Pigeon Forge, TN and Sevierville during the month of September. Sevierville will see three HUGE events roll through town next month. Not only will the popular Shades of the Past and Grand Rod Run be back on the Parkway, the Forge Classic Car Show will run in accordance with the Shades of the Past show Sept. 9-10 at the Sevierville Events Center.

What makes these Rod Runs so popular? For most, it’s a trip down memory lane back to time gone by. These fuel-injected pieces of chrome and steel make you reminisce back to your younger days. Days of parking at the ridge and drag racing at the docks. Car shows bring out the wide-eyed child in all of us. Just seeing the cars lined up and down the parkway takes you back to a simpler time. There’s also something about rubbing elbows with 100,000 people that share the same love for certain classic cars that you just can’t find anywhere else.

Gone are the days when an engine overhaul meant climbing into the car, getting your hands dirty, and napping under the hood. These days, if you’ve left you’re lap top at home you’re already behind schedule. Manage to drop a screwdriver in the engine and it’s probably lost till you roll over the next speed hump, or take the next switch back. Only a hammer, bondo, and paint were needed to fix these Chevies, Fords, Pontiacs and Dodges. Fiberglass and computers are now such a part of automobiles, it’s turned out a new generation of mechanics. It’s a wonder that car shows haven’t faded with the times, but it really shows that no matter the make or model, gearheads will always be gearheads. And gearheads love their cars…they’re passionate…and Sevierville, TN is the perfect backdrop to the Great Smoky Mountains to show off these chrome jewels.

The Great Smoky Mountain Autofest

Category : Sevierville Events

In East Tennessee, you’re about as likely to see a car show on the weekend as you are to see footballs flying through the air on a fall Friday night. Simply put, people around these parts love their classic cars and like showing them off even more.

Sevierville and The Diner Rats Car Club will get into the act later this month (September 23, 24, and 25) with their annual Great Smoky Mountain Autofest, held yearly at Smokies Stadium, just off Interstate 40. It’s a great show for those of you who don’t want to battle the crowds at the Pigeon Forge Rod Runs, but still want to take in a car show that reflects the vast genres seen at the yearly Rod Runs and Shades of the Past car shows. Autofest registration is open to the first 800 cars and by the looks of things last year, the lot fills up quick.

As in years past, this is an open event to all years, makes and models from classics, antiques, street rods, customs, originals and special interests. There will also be cars for sale, car vendors promoting their products, a swap meet, a craft sale, food, as well as shopping opportunities – basically something for everyone. Continue Reading

A crisp, clean breeze, the leaves begin to change color, and the Smoky Mountain’s arts & crafts community starts begins to really come alive. Fall in the Smokies is a time of year like no other. If you have never experienced the Sevierville/Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area during spring or summer, then you don’t know what you’re missing! Get to Sevierville before October 31 and before the colors disappear for another year!

The Smoky Mountain Harvest Festival is a county-wide celebration that includes Sevierville, Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge. The event kicks off on September 17 and will last through October 31.It’s  a celebration of all things autumn that numerous local businesses in the Smoky Mountain region participate in. Throughout Sevier County you will find an assortment of “fall displays” with scarecrows, stacks of hay, pumpkins, cornstalks, and all sorts of other fall decorations aligning the streets, in business windows and around every corner. In Sevierville you will experience traditional Appalachian music along with gospel and bluegrass. Artisans with the local arts and crafts community will share their wares and promote their talents which include; basket weaving, candle making, jewelry, quilting, pottery, doll making, leather, stained glass, scrimshaw, fine photography, various art works, and more. This isn’t a month long “made in (insert foreign country here)” tourist trap either…this is genuine, mountain-made, good ‘ole folks crafts and artwork! Here, you’re able to meet and talk to the artists face-to-face as they demonstrate their craft before your own eyes. Numerous visitors come back to the same shops every year to add to their collection of jewelry, pottery, art, etc. Nothing this unique and personal can be found anywhere else.
