The 50th Annual Sevierville Christmas Parade (Dec. 1) has it all this year – baton twirlers, marching bands, pageant winners and all kinds of floats. Of course, this is all leading up to the appearance of the parade’s Grand Marshal – Santa Claus!
This year, the parade will begin at 11 am. For those looking for a premium spot, the parade can best be viewed by finding a spot along Forks of the River Parkway and Court Avenue in historic downtown Sevierville.
Other entries include a 1949 Dodge wrecker that looks like “Tow Mater” from the Disney movie “Cars,” the General Lee showcar from the “Dukes of Hazzard,” Slugger & Diamond mascots from the Smokies, Bloomie the Pig, WIVK the Frog and U.S. Rep. Phil Roe.
The Sevierville Christmas Parade will wind through downtown Sevierville and feature a number of unique entries including the Lumberjack Feud – a float demonstrating the woodcutting skills of your everyday lumberjack. The Lumberjack Feud is a Smoky Mountain dinner show that pits two lumberjacking families against each other for the right to stay in the Smokies.
As for the float, the working lumberjacks will climb poles, use crosscut saws and hot saws in various competitions. The show’s new host, Danny Devany, who formerly played “Scraps” at the Hoot & Holler Dinner Show, will also be on the float entertaining the crowd.
Other unique entries for the 2012 Sevierville Christmas Parade include Hoop Mood Teens – a hula hoop dance team from Sevierville Middle School, an entry depicting Christmas around the Hispanic world from the Sevier County High School Spanish Club, a horse and carriage from Heritage Carriage Rides, the Blake Jones No. 80 race car and several antique fire trucks.
And don’t worry about your favorites from years past. They’ll be back as well including a number of area school mascots, majorette groups, the D&S Builders Gingerbread House, the antique yellow Blalock’s truck and more.
The Sevierville Kiwanis Club will also push their shopping carts alongside their parade float again this year collecting canned food donations for the Sevier County Food Ministry.
The parade will conclude with the traditional arrival of Santa Claus on the Tanger Five Oaks sleigh.
The Sevierville Christmas Parade will originate in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church, exit the parking lot and travel west on Honey Street, turn right (north) on Forks of the River Parkway, right (east) on Main Street, right (south) on Court Avenue and continue back to the First Baptist Church parking area.
